Brow Lift – Since birth, we’ve all learned to express our feelings through non-verbal means that are recognized around the world. We frown when we’re angry resulting in a wrinkled forehead or brows. Sadness or exhaustion can be apparent when our brow sags. Through time, whether it’s just from natural aging, heredity, or overly active muscles in the forehead and brow area, low or sagging brows may actually be permanent.
While some people choose to keep their natural look, others may not be completely happy with these permanent expression lines and want to change it. In today’s advanced world, it is possible to reduce these signs of aging and regain a more relaxed look. A procedure called the brow lift / forehead lift is designed to fix a sagging or low-positioned brow and smooth out lines on your forehead.
This page gives you an overview of the brow lift. In order to have a more thorough understanding of the process and ensure the results will meet your personal goals, consult with Dr. Kinney or another plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
What is a Brow Lift?
A brow lift is a plastic surgery procedure focusing on the upper region of your face. The area concentrated on runs from your scalp to the upper eyelids, from one temple to the other. If done by an experienced surgeon, a brow lift or forehead lift can take years off your appearance. The process permanently improves the appearance of wrinkles and sagging brows, which can be caused by several different reasons. For some, it’s just a result of natural aging. For others, visible creases and low brows can result from hereditary influences or frequent facial expressions that contract the muscles in this area. A forehead lift / brow lift can accomplish the following goals:
- Reduce wrinkles and signs of aging in the forehead and brow area with a natural, relaxed look
- Minimize lines on the forehead and between the eyes at the bridge of the nose
- Soften vertical creases that may exist between the eyebrows
- Bring up a low or sagging brow that hangs over the upper eyelid allowing for a more youthful and alert appearance
The brow lift procedure can be done in one of two ways depending on what you prefer. Plastic surgeons can use one incision in the natural groove of each upper eyelid or several incisions inside the hairline. If you have a substantial amount of excess skin in your forehead, your plastic surgeon may recommend a wide incision across the top of your scalp. A consultation with a board certified surgeon is suggested to determine what method will work best for you. For an enhanced look, some clients elect to have laser resurfacing or a chemical peel performed to even out their skin tone and reveal fresh glowing skin. Other plastic surgery procedures that can be done alongside a brow lift to help give you an even more youthful look include eyelid surgery or a facelift.
